JAMA Reviews DCPP Publications

December 13, 2006

In its December 13, 2006 edition, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a review of the Disease Control Priorities Project publications: Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries, 2nd edition (DCP2), Global Burden of Disease and Risk Factors, and Priorities in Health.

In discussing Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries, Dr. Abbas Bhuiya writes, "The first edition was useful to policy makers for selecting highly effective health interventions under resource constraints. DCP2 takes the mission further by updating and improving the guidance offered to address the institutional, organizational, financial, and research capacities necessary for a health system to deliver effective interventions... The purpose of this volume is to help speed this diffusion of life-saving knowledge. The content is rich and useful. The volume is a repository of information and world knowledge on issues related to health and health care systems in the developing world, with clear guidance for the future. "
