Policy Impact Highlighted at the Disease Control Priorities Project One-Year Anniversary Event

Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health hosted an anniversary event, “Disease Control Priorities Project: Implementing the Research Agenda,” celebrating the accomplishments of the past year since the launch of Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries, 2nd edition (DCP2).

With a wide variety of presenters (including five of the nine DCP2 editors), the agenda focused on the policy impact of the Disease Control Priorities Project (DCPP) around the world.

There were several highlights: Dr. Julio Frenk (Senior Fellow, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Former Minister of Health, Mexico) gave the keynote address discussing the use of DCPP in Mexican health policy reform; Sir George Alleyne (Director Emeritus, Pan American Health Organization; DCPP Editor) shared his experiences using DCPP to show Caribbean heads of state that lives can be saved with stricter tobacco laws; and Dr. Prabhat Jha (Research Chair of Health and Development, University of Toronto; DCPP Editor) presented on DCPP’s role in health policy change in India.
