http://www.ajtmh.org/content/vol77/6_Suppl/Leading research scientists, physicians, and public health specialists from around the world have contributed to a 340-page supplement to the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene titled “Defining and Defeating the Intolerable Burden of Malaria III: Progress and Perspectives.” The 42 article supplement details the latest developments on a broad range of malaria issues. Topics include: malaria in pregnancy; the burden of malaria in India; scaling up malaria control in Africa; a global subsidy for antimalarial drugs; and DDT for indoor residual spraying in Africa.

Fogarty International Center (FIC), part of the National Institutes of Health and Disease Control Priorities Project partner, spearheaded the effort. Dr. Joel G. Breman, Senior Scientific Advisor at FIC and co-managing editor of the Disease Control Priorities Project (DCPP) served as Senior Guest Editor along with co-editors Martin Alilio and Nicholas White. Dr. Breman commented that “DCPP's role was instrumental in that it supported analytic work on the burden of malaria and cost-effectiveness of interventions that were included in the supplement."

The supplement is available here free to scientists, researchers, and other interested parties worldwide.
