 DCPP Around the World

Findings from the Disease Control Priorities Project continue to be highlighted and presented at health policy events around the world. Below is a list of notable events since our last newletter where the World Bank or other DCPP partners disseminated the DCPP findings:

In September 2008, at the ECSA 2nd Regional Forum on Best Practices in Health Care and the 18th Directors’ Joint Consultative Committee Meeting (DJCC) in Arusha, Tanzania, DCPP findings were used to address the need to revitalize Primary Healthcare (PHC) and implement practical solutions in order to effectively achieve the MDG’s. Sir George Alleyne presented on the main topic and also on non-communicable diseases and emphasized the importance of DCPP’s role in stimulating effective joint action in key, but neglected, areas. Dr. Alleyne’s presentation “Revitalizing Primary Health Care: Strengthening Health Systems” can be viewed here.

A workshop in Washington, DC in June 2008 presented DCP2 findings and recommendations in the areas of school-based health and nutrition programs. Key concepts on the effects of education and health and nutrition outcomes and on cost effectiveness of education interventions were presented to World Bank staff by Dr. Donald Bundy. An in-depth discussion on the policy implications of these findings and how they apply to World Bank operations followed. The presentation can be viewed here.
